PUBLISHER’S NOTE:
The name Letter of Apology comes from an old inside joke among defense attorneys and prosecutors. In the South, when criminal defense attorneys ask for charges against their clients to be dropped, they sometimes phrase it this way: “We’ll accept a dismissal of the indictment, and waive the letter of apology.”
Letter of Apology attempts to shed light on current issues of interest in white collar criminal law. There is no particular political focus, although I am obviously influenced by my libertarian-conservative political orientation and my experience as a white collar criminal defense attorney. Letter of Apology has no narrow party agenda, but there will often be a point of view. I will make an honest effort to divorce such points of view from the usual partisan cant, and to cut through the typical DC spin.
It is inevitable that, as a white collar criminal defense attorney located in Washington DC, I will represent some individuals in matters that are or have been referenced on this blog. I do not intend to editorialize about any case or investigation in which I represent an interested party, without first revealing that representation to my readers.
This is my blog. I pay for it and run it and speak for myself alone. So don’t go blaming my law partners, wife, friends or enemies for the views expressed here.
Finally, and obviously, the materials on this blog do not constitute legal advice.
